Hanguk Minseokchon
Report Incorrect DataCreated in 1974, this village is really more like an open-air folk museum designed to show how Koreans once lived. It's one of several such villages throughout the country, but because it is the closest to Seoul, it is the best known and most frequently visited, though in my opinion the one in Andong is probably a better example of traditional country life. Set on 97 hectares (240 acres), there are over 260 traditional homes and buildings from the late Joseon period. Try to time your visits for any number of the performances during the day . On holidays and weekends, they also perform ancestral rites and other traditional folk activities. The Korean Folk Museum is worth a gander, if you want to pay the extra admission, but the Haunted House is quite cheesy -- best to skip it. If you visit around lunchtime, you may be tempted to stop in at one of the restaurants at the entry, but hold out until you can get to the Korean food court inside the village, where they have a larger variety of offerings and alfresco dining.
